Materials
5" x 8" Oblong Base
1/4" Flat Oval Smoked - spokes
#2 Round - twining
11/64" Flat Oval - weavers & lashing

Seagrass - rim filler
1/2" Flat Oval - rims
Lighted Willow Branches (battery operated with timer) - optional

Cut 47 spokes from 1/4" FO each 14" long. Put a light pencil mark at the center of the base (4") and insert at this mark, and one on the opposite side of the base. If the groove in your base is too narrow to insert the spokes, run sandpaper around the groove several times, and/or sand down the ends of each spoke (you want a tight fit). Then insert 23 spikes on one side of the center spoke, and 22 spokes on the other side. Having an odd number of spokes allows for a continuous twill weave.

Twine with #2R two times around, keeping the spokes slat. End off the round reed. Gently upset your spokes. Taper the end of a long piece of 11/64" FO. Twill weave over 2 under 2 for approximately 62 rows or when you basket is 10" high. Pack as you go. You can choose to weave your basket up straight, or give it a litlle shape -- the choice is yours.

Taper the weaver to end the weaving. Pack again. Twine 2 times around with #2R. Cut and tuck the spokes (I tucked all my spokes). Rim with 1/2" FO, seagrass between the rims and lash with 11/64" FO. I sprayed my basket with Clear Weaver's Stain.

Decorate as desired. Basket shown with one set of Lighted Willow Branches, prairie grasses and deep orange flowers.
