From 5/8" FF cut 7 spokes each 22" long and 2 spokes 26" long. From 7mm FF cut 2 filler spokes each 17" long. Soak briefly along with a strand of #2 R.

Put the handle down horizontally in front of you. Lay a 22" spoke vertically across the handle starting on the far left side of the handle and then weave the next spoke under the handle, then on top of the handle, etc. (Spokeweights come in handy).

Weave in a filler spoke horizontally just above the handle, snug it up close to the handle. Now weave in 1 of the 26" spokes just above the filler spoke. Repeat this on the other side of the handle. Looking from top to bottom, you will have a 5/8" FF spoke, filler spoke, handle, filler spoke and a 5/8" FF spoke. Adjust the base to 8" long x 2 3/4" wide. Fold the filler spokes to the inside of the base and tuck under the 3rd spoke of base weaving. trim off any excess. Twine 1 time around the base and handle with #2 R.

Upset the spokes and weave 21 rows start and stop using 7mm FF. Pack well. Cut and tuck the spokes. Rim with 5/8" FF, seagrass between rims and lash with 3/16" FO.

Spray your basket with Weaver's Stain (I used oak) and let it dry completely before tying on the birdhouse buckle. Secure the red bird to the basket with Maxi Cure Glue. Refer to the photo for placement of grass sprigs.
