Cut 10 pieaces 1/2" FO each 7 1/2" for spoke reinforcements. Soak for a few minutes. Flex these pieces to straighten them and set aside.

From 5/8" FF cut 11 spokes 40" long and 15 spokes 36" long. From 7mm FF cut 10 filler spokes 22" long. Mark the center of several spokes & filler spokes on the wrong side. Lay out 11 spokes (40") horizontally alternating the 10 filler spokes. Line up the center marks. Weave in 1 center spoke (36") vertically over the center spoke and weaving under the filler spokes. Weave in 7 more spokes on each side of the center spoke. Adjust base to 9 1/2"W x 14"L. Fold the filler spokes to the inside of the base and tuck under the 3rd spoke of base weaving. Trim off any excess. Twine 2 times around the base with #2 R. Upset the spokes.

Weave the following rows start and stop:
9 rows 3/8" FF (1st row woven inside the center spoke)
3 rows 1/4" FF dyed
1 row 3/8" FF - pack well

Insert the 1/2" FO reinforcements. On the short side of the basket, count in 3 spokes from the corner and insert a reinforcement on top of these spokes. Repeat on the other end. On the long side, insert on on top of the center spoke and also on the 4th spoke from each corner (Total of 10 - 2 on each short side & 3 on each long side).

Adding the leather straps:
Weave 1 row 3/4" FF. On the short side of the basket locate the 2nd spoke in from each corner. These are your handle spokes. These must be outside spokes (you will have 7 spokes in between). Slide the looped end down onto these spokes...push the loop down so that it is on top of the row of 5/8" FF weaver. To reinforce the handle spokes, cut a piece of 5/8" FF about 1 1/2" long and insert it on top of the spoke. You will have a double thickness for added strenght on the handle spokes. Hide the ends under rows of weavers. Repeat on the other end.

Afer the straps are on, continue with:
1 row 3/8" FF
3 rows 1/4" FF dyed
3 rows 3/8" FF

The 1/4" dyed overlays can be added anytime.

Pack well. Cut and tuck spokes. For the necessare strenght at the top of the basket, use strips of 1/2" hardwood for the inner rim (inner rim stiffening pkg). Use 1/2" FO for outer rim, seagrass between rims and lash with 7mm FF.

Note: Due to slight size variation of baskets, the hardwood strips may not extend completeley to each corner--that is ok.
