Materials

3 1/2" x 10" Half Oblong Wall Base
"DD" Package (includes one 10" Plain Black Leather Strap & 6' Black Aligned Paper Cord) 
4mm Natural Double Twisted Paper Cord
1/2" Flat Flat - spokes & inner rim
 


3/8" Flat Flat - rim row
1/2" Flat Oval - outer rim
11/64" Flat Oval - lashing

Cut 24 spokes from 1/2" FF each 10" long. Put a light pencil mark at the center of the base (5"). Because you will be upsetting the spokes immediately, I suggest you glue in all your spokes. Dry fit each spoke, then remove one at a time and glue it in. If the groove in your base is too narrow to insert the spokes, run sand paper around the groove several time and/or sand down the ends of each spoke. Insert a spoke at the front center mark and also another one at the back center. Then insert the remaining spokes - 11 spokes on each side of the center spoke.

Preparing the Black Aligned Paper Cord for Weaving:
Cut lengthwise a 3 foot piece of black aligned paper cord into 3 strips, cutting along the grooves. The first cut will be the 3rd groove in, then cut along the next 3rd groove in. You will now have 3 strips. You can also tear it along the grooves - just trim up the edges after with you scissors. Repeat with another 3 foot piece of the aligned paper cord in the same manner and set aside.

Slightly dampen and upset the spokes. Weave start and stop 1 row of the black aligned paper cord which you have cut. DO NOT WET THE PAPER CORD. Weave 1 row 4mm natural double twisted paper cord,butting the ends inside the basket. Repeat rows again 2 times and end with the black aligned paper cord. Set aside the remaining black aligned paper cord. Measure off two 42 ft. lengths of 4mm natural double twisted paper cord. No need to wet it. Chase weave for 30-32 rows, packing often. If you need to add onto the paper cord, just butt the ends inside the basket. End off the natural double twisted paper cord inside the basket. Repeat the same pattern with the black aligned paper cord (that was set aside) as in the beginning. Weave in a 3/8" FF rim row. Pack well again.

Cut and tuck the spokes. Thread the outside 1/2" FO rim through the opening of the leather strap, positioning the strap in the back of the basket. The inner rim (1/2" FF) goes on in the usual manner. Use leftover 4mm natural double twisted paper cord as the rim filler, and lash with 11/64" FO.
