Finished Basket Size: 8"L x 8"W x 6"H (not including handle)

Materials
5/8" Flat Flat - spokes & inner rim
3/8" Flat Flat - filler spokes
#2 Round - twining
7mm Flat Flat - weavers
5/8" Flat Oval - outer Rim
1/2" Flat Flat Dyed - 2 weavers
Seagrass - rim filler
3/16" Flat Oval - lashing
8" Wrought Iron Round Top Handle w/spiral
3/8" Maple Paper Thin for curls (or flexible 3/8" Flat Flat)

From 5/8" FF cut 5 spokes each 24" long and 7 spokes each 22" long. Also cut 4 filler spokes from 3/8" FF each 14" long. Soak briefly along with a long strand of #2 R. Layout the 5 long spokes horizontally (smooth side down) alternating with the 4 filler spokes which will be smooth side up. Weave in 1 center spoke vertically (smooth side down) starting under the horizontal spoke and over the filler spokes. Weave in 3 more spokes on each side of this center spoke. Adjust base to measure approximately 6 3/4" x 4 3/4". Fold the filler spokes to the underneath side of the base, and tuck under the third spoke of base weaving. Trim off any excess. Repeat on the other end. Twine twice around the base with #2R. Upset spokes.

Weave 12 rows of start and stop with 7mm FF. weave 2 rows of 1/2" FF dyed reed. Measure often - your handle is 8" wide. Finish with 3 rows of 7mm FF. Pack well.

Two options for inserting the handle and rimming:
1. Place handle on center opposite spokes. Fold and tuck spokes over the extending rod. Cut and tuck the remaining spokes in the usual way. Rim with 5/8" FO outside, 5/8" FF inside, seagrass between rims, and lash with 3/16" FO.

OR

2. Cut and tuck all spokes in the usual way. Clip on rims. Place the extending rods between the rims along with your seagrass and lash with 3/16" FO. I chose option #2.

CURLS
Paper Thin Maple: soak in warm water for about 1 minute, then put into a plastic bag to "mellow" for about 15 minutes. Hint: I found the maple was easier to work with by cutting the strand into 3 shorter pieces.

Reed: Insert the end of a flexible strand behind a vertical spoke - rough side out. Give a slight twist and insert the end behind the vertical spoke in the row below. The good side will now be out. Continue around the basket working up and down. Refer to photo.

Spray with Weaver's Stain ( I used clear).
