Cut 2 spokes from 3/8" FF each 5 1/2" long. These are the "handle spokes". Cut 26 spokes from 7mm FF each 5 1/2" long. Soak briefly. Mark the center of the base lengthwise. Insert your two 3/8" FF handle spokes at the center mark, and then 13 spokes from 7mm FF in between (10 spokes on each long side and 3 on each short side). You may want to secure your spokes in the slot either by gluing or by shiming. Twine 2 times around the base with #1R, keeping the spokes FLAT. Weave these 2 rows tight. Gently upset the spokes, and weave the following rows start and stop (DO NOT let your spokes flare out): 9 rows 11/64" FO 1 row 11/64" FO dyed 1 row 11/64" FO natural 1 row 11/64" FO dyed 1 row 11/64" FO natural 1 row 7mm FF (rim row) Pack well and cut and tuck in the usual manner. Insert your handle, and rim with 3/8" FO, with #1 seagrass between the rims, and lash with 11/64" FO. Stain with your favorite Weaver's Stain. | |
