Base Size: 5"L x 2 1/2"W, Height: 5"

Cut 3 spokes each 21" long and 5 spokes each 18" long using 1/2" FF, and 2 filler spokes 9" using 3/8" FF. Mark the centers of several spokes and filler spokes on the wrong side. Lay out the 3 spokes horizontally alternately with the 2 filler spokes. Weave in 1 center spoke vertically starting under the horizontal spoke and weaving over the filler spokes. Weave in 2 more spokes on each side of this center spokes. Adjust base to measure 5" x 2 1/2". Fold the filler spokes to the inside of the base. Create "chicken feet" by cutting these 2 filler spoke ends in half lengthwise.

Tuck these under the 1st row of base weaving (1/2" spoke) on each side of the filler spoke. Trim off any excess. Repeat on the other end. Twine 2 times around base with #1 R. Upset the spokes.

Weave 16 rows of start and stop using 7mm FF, the last row being your rim row. The leather strap will be attached to the rim row. Attach the strap by counting in 1 spoke from each end. These will be your "handle spokes". Slip 7mm FF through the loop on the end of the straps as you weave in the rim row. You will have 1 spoke in between the "handle spokes". These "handle spokes" must be spokes that will be cut off flush. If not, add one more row of weaving.

Pack well. Cut and tuck spokes. Rim with 1/2" FO for the outside rim and 1/2" FF for the inside rim with seagrass between rims. Cut a 4' piece of Imitation Round Leather cord for the lashing. Put the remaining 2' piece aside for making the tassels. It is not necessary to wet the leather cord. Thread beads onto the leather cord as you lash around the basket, alternating colors (I used Black, Natural and Medium Brown, but you can be creative and use your own color scheme). Cinch the cord tightly as you lash.

Tassels: Cut the remaining 2' piece of leather cord in half and insert them behind a spoke. Thread beads on, knotting the ends securely.
