11/64" Flat Oval - weavers & lashing 1/2" Flat Flat - spokes 3" x 6" Peg 'D' or 3" x 6" Cup Hook 'D" Santa or Cardinal Basket Button® | |

Using 1/2" FF, cut 3 spokes each 11" long. Mark the center of each spoke on the wrong side. Dampen the spokes. Insert the 3 spokes into the slot in the handle, spacing them evenly. Bend the spokes up. Use spring clamps to hold each spoke together at the top. Cut 15 weavers each 11" long using 11/64" FO and dampen. I found it easier on this small basket to "thread" the end of my weaver in and out of the spokes. The first row goes outside the handle. After weaving 2 rows, the spring clamps can be removed. Weave a total of 15 rows of start and stop. Pack well. Cut and tuck the spokes. I did not put the usual inside/outside rim on this basket. Instead, I double lashed, incorporating the top two rows of weaving ) your lashing will go under the second row down from the top). Spay with Weaver's Stay. Tie on the Santa or Cardinal (or your favorite) Basket Button® . All supplies to make this basket are available at N.C. Basket Works. |
