Cut 14 spokes from 3/8" FF each 8" long. Dampen slightly. Insert the spokes evenly around base ( gluing the spokes into the base is optional). Twine 2 times around the base with #1 R. DO NOT CUT THE ROUND REED. Upset the spokes and continue to twine 5 more times around the basket. End round reed. Weave the following rows start and stop: 10 rows 11/64" FO 1 row 1/4" FF - the Jr. Snowman Basket Buckle® will be woven on this row along with an overlay piece of 1/4" FF dyed black for his belt. 14 rows 11/64" FO 1 row 1/4" FF - rim row Pack well. Cut and tuck spokes. Rim with 3/8" FF inside and outside, seagrass between rims and lash with 11/64" FO. Stain basket if desired. I used Oak Weaver's Stain and covered the Basket Buckle® with plastic wrap. Insert tree and arms on the Jr. Snowman and fill with candy canes. To make the Pencil Basket: Follow directions for the Candy Cane Basket. Eliminate the 1/4"FF row in the middle of the basket. The cardinal basket button® is tied on after the basket is stained. The height of the pencil basket is 5". All supplies to make this basket are available at NC Basket Works. |
