Using 3/8" flat, cut 8 spokes each 24" long. Cut 2 spokes using 1/2" flat each 24" long. Dampen spokes and mark centers of each spoke on the wrong side. Layout horizontally two 3/8" flat spokes, one 1/2" flat spoke, and two 3/8" flat spokes. Weave in vertically two 3/8" flat spokes, one 1/2" flat spoke, and two 3/8" flat spokes (the two 1/2" spokes will intersect in the center). Adjust base to measure 3 1/4" x 3 1/4". Upset the spokes and weave the following rows start & stop: 20 rows 7 mm flat 1 row 1/4" flat dyed violet 1 row 1/4" flat dyed hunter green 1 row 7mm flat 1 row 3/8" flat (rim row) Allow your basket to flare out slightly Pack well. Determine your handle placement by finding the two opposite sides where the center spokes will be cut off flush, and the spokes on either side will bend over the extending rods. Cut and tuck the spokes. Rim with 1/2" flat oval, seagrass between, and lash with 3/16" flat oval. Note:1/4" flat dyed violet and hunter green can be added as overlaps on the natural spokes on the front and back of the basket. Artificial grape leaves can be attached to the front if desired. |
