Cut 8 spokes from 3/4" FF each 28" long and 7 spokes from 3/4" FF each 30" long. Soak briefly. Mark the center of the handle and a few of the spokes. Lay 3 spokes horizontal (30" long) under the handle and 4 on top of the handle. Weave in vertically 4 spokes on each side of handle. Base measures 8" x 10". Upset the spokes. Weave the following rows start & stop: 1 row 1/2" FF brown (this will be outside the handle) 1 row 1/4" FF rust 1 row 1/4" FF gold 9 rows 1/2" FF natural 1 row 1/4" FF gold 1 row 1/4" FF rust 1 row 1/2" FF brown 1 row 1/4" FF (rim row) Pack well. Cut and tuck in the usual manner. Rim with 1/2" FO, seagrass between rims, and lash with 1/4" FF. If you plan to stain your basket, do it now before adding the leaves. Refer to photo for placement of leaves, or do your own deisgn for the look you desire. To attach the leaves, bend the metal prongs around a spoke to the inside of the basket. I found the #2R brown helped to achieve the "connected look", but this is optional. Painted Metal Autumn Leaves come in two sizes. The small is 2" H X 2 1/2" W, and the large is 2 1/2" H X 3 1/4" W, and come in 4 color combinations: yellow/burgundy, yellow/orange, yellow/brown, and orange/burgundy. |
