Cut 44 spokes from 3/8" FF each 8" long. Dampen spokes. Put a light pencil mark 7 1/2" on the wood base (this is half the length of 15"). This center mark will indicate your handle spokes. Insert a handle spoke on each side of the base, and then 21 spokes in between. You may want to secure your spokes in the slot either by gluing or by shiming. Weave 2 rows 11/64" FO start and stop, keeping the spokes FLAT (weave these 2 rows tight). Gently upset the spokes and weave 3 more rows 11/64" FO. Switch to 3/16" FO and weave 7 rows, then 1 row 1/4" FF color, 1 row 3/8" FF color, 1 row 1/4" FF color. Do not let your spokes flair out. Continue with 3/16" FO for 5 rows, and then 1 row 7mm FF (rim row). Pack well, cut, and tuck. Insert your handle and rim with 1/2" FO, with #6R in between the rims and lash with 11/64" FO. Stain with your favorite Weaver's Stain. |
