From 1/2"FF cut 20 spokes 8" long and from 5/8"FF cut 8 spokes 8" long. Slightly dampen the spokes. Run sandpaper around the groove of the lid if your spokes are too tight. Insert ten 1/2"FF spokes on each long side of the lid and four 5/8"FF spokes on each end. Angle the corner spokes toward the corners. Refer to photo.

Twine six times around with #2R, keeping the spokes FLAT. DO NOT CUT the #2R. Upset the spokes and continue to twine two more times. Have you Kleenex Brand Tissue ® box near by so you can check the fit often. Remember, the inner rim and lashing will take up space, so it is better to be too big than too small.

Start and stop the following rows:

6 rows 11/64"FO
2 rows 1/2"FF dyed
8 rows 11/64"FO - before weaving the 3/8" rim row check the height of the Kleenex Brand Tissue ® box. Add another row or two of 11/64"FO if necessarey.

1 row 3/8"FF (rim row)

Pack well. Cut and tuck all spokes in the usual manner. Use 1/2"FF for inner and outer rims, seagrass between rims, and double lash with 11/64"FO.

Curls:
Paper Thin Maple: soak in warm water for about one minute, then put into a plastic bag to "mellow" for about 15 minutes. I found the maple was easier to work with by cutting the strand into 3 shorter pieces. Insert the end of the strand behind a vertical spoke, give a slight twist and insert the end behind the vertical spoke in the row below. Continue around the basket working up and down. Refer to photo.

Spray with Weaver's Stain. (I used Clear)

The Rectangle Tissue Lids are available in Oak, Cherry, Walnut and Mixed Woods.
